Review : David Shillinglaw Exhibition Oct 2010

David Shillinglaw’s innocent good looks hide an intricate mind that produces a very modern & macabre set of sketches & artwork. Some of this artwork look very like childlike drawings/ collages and upon closer inspection show a myriad of detailed, sometimes cheeky connection of thoughts and medical referances designed to make you think. Hence, The Hospital Club, an almost perfect setting for this set of paintings & sketches.

The very sophisticated chatter & cocktail sipping excitement aside, I did manage to take in the artwork. Although, a few days later, when writing the review, the

Mini book, Colourful Condition definitely jogged my mind into remembering the artworks vividly. Especially enjoyed the self medication zine ~ it has many twists & turns that surprise you and propel thinking about subjects you would not normally delve into.

David has travelled the world adorning galleries, walls, canvasses & wood impressively.

My favourite pieces are : Crown Clown bust

X-Ray vision

The whole wall filled with sketches.
